Denver Temple

Denver Temple

This was supposed to be just a study for a larger painting that people took a liking to. I wanted to show the mountains in the background, and in order to do this, the photographer had to use a cherry-picker and take the photo from a few blocks away. It's now available in print and as a tie.

Red Rocks Riveria Watercolor study

Red Rocks Riveria Watercolor study

Watercolor study done in southern France for the oil painting (see bottom of page). On Sundays when we travel as a family, we find the local LDS church (and hopefully someone will speak our language!) and then often go out painting. this time someone told us to just drive along the French Riveria coastline until we see red rocks. Sure enough it was beautiful!

A dog with a chair on a stool....

My sister and I decided to dress up one of her stools with a scene that we happened upon when she visited me in Italy. This is on the Island of Murano (right by Venice) and this patient little puppy was the perfect model!

Tuscany mural

Tuscany mural

Yep - even after leaving our beloved Italy and moving to Germany, I had to have a remembrance on our dining room wall... Nothing beats Tuscany in the summer!

"Christ with Children"

"Christ with Children"

One of my last commissioned portraits, done in 2005. If you'll notice, part of this painting appears again in the background of the 'Vessels' painting.

Venice Reposo

Venice Reposo

I live an hour away from Venice, Italy and would love to go and wander around and take pictures. Reposo was the best time, when everyone is inside eating and resting.

Asian Brushes

Asian Brushes

After going to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, I felt inspired to do a more 'choppy' painting style in his honor. these are all my favorite ornamental brushes I collected during our time in South Korea and a visit to China.

Pienza Haystacks

Pienza Haystacks

This painting should actually be titled, "Pienza Haystacks and Dead Bugs!" since there must be a few dozen that dive-bombed into my painting. I felt very artsy sitting in the shade of a haystack in Tuscany while painting until those little guys discovered me. Perhaps they wanted to be immortalized on canvas?!?

David in Weilerbach

David in Weilerbach

We moved overseas in 2002 and lived in Weilerbach, Germany for a few months. I've painted each of my boys at 6 months of age, so it was fitting to put David in the setting of our new home.

French Riveria

French Riveria

While living overseas, our favorite getaways were either Tuscany or San Tropez, France, to a cheap little place near the beach. This spot was near what we called 'the Baby Beach'. A wonderful hidden cove which stayed shallow for about 1/2 a mile and had great climbing rocks on the side.

Jerusalem

Jerusalem

This is a watercolor I did for my husband, Mark's birthday in 2013 to remember our trip to Jerusalem the year before. This would be how it looked many years ago, and not how it is now with it's busy streets and cars...

Pioneer Spirit

Pioneer Spirit

I painted this in Baltimore while still in college at Maryland Institute, College of Art. The original belongs to the Ott Family

The Preece Children

The Preece Children

While living in Syracuse, NY I was able to paint a few families walking in the Sacred Grove in Palmyra. It was a special experience!

Renaissance Gwynn

Renaissance Gwynn

My younger sister posing in her costume that she wore during her years as an actress in the Maryland Renaissance Festival...

Apples on Parrish

Apples on Parrish

Just a little day-painting to keep from getting stale and slick. Sometimes I need to go and do these quick paintings as exercises to keep my brushwork faster. Plus, I love Maxfield Parrish (the book underneath) and his neat colors!

Renaissance Jim

Renaissance Jim

My parents also are regulars at the Maryland Renn. Festival. My father in particular has the most wonderful costumes, and since he is also a trumpet player, I turned this into a pseudo-portrait.

Renaissance Patricia

Renaissance Patricia

My mother, in her costume as well - we both love the color purple... I'm eyeing that dress when you're done with it ma!!!

Pienza Watercolor

Pienza Watercolor

Just outside of the small city of Pienza you'll find all sorts of serpentine roads and rolling hills that remind me of patchwork quilts...
